Spring Food Events in Philly

Brewer's Plate 2013
Not sure about you, but we're ready for spring. Let's make today's snow/sleet/rain the end of it and bring on the tulips. Springtime will bring the end of cold and - even better - the beginning of food event season. Brewer's Plate helped kick it off last weekend with a packed house of local food/beer pairings. We tried as much as our stomachs could handle and posted the highlights in photos on Facebook.

We've been hearing about all sorts of other food-related events coming up and wanted to share a few more that look fun:

Philly Beergasm: now doesn't that sound interesting...
Thursday, March 28th 2013, 7:30pm – 9:30pm
Yards Brewery
Beer Cakes Philly and Collaborate Philly created this new event to benefit Philabundance and pay homage to our awesome local beer culture. Local breweries Forest and Main and 5 O’clock Brew as well as Philadelphia home brewers will serve beer; Spodee will provide wine/beer cocktails; local chef Dan Berlin of Bongo Zepto brewery will make an all beer-centric food menu; and Beer Cakes Philly will provide beer-infused desserts. There will be live music, a raffle, a free tour of Yards Brewing, activities like “Cream Your Own Cupcake,” and many more to guarantee that no one leaves without a Beergasm. Well, heck why not! $40 for tickets

Hosted by Fair Food Philly and the Pennsylvania Association for Sustainable Agriculture, this event connects shoppers with food artisans and producers and local farmers. Over 100 vendors will sample and sell locally grown fruit, veggies, meats, poultry, eggs, and desserts, including a special flavor by Capogiro just for this event. Will also feature goods from sustainable businesses and handcrafted products, family friendly activities and workshops, and demos by farm-to-table chefs like Valerie Erwin of Geechee Girl, Chef Yun Fuentes of JG Domestic, and Chef Josh Lawler of The Farm and Fisherman. $15 in advance, $20 at the door, children 12 and under free

Taste of the Nation: top dollar tickets for top local food
Sunday, April 28, 2013, 5:00 pm - 8:00pm
Hotel Monaco
David Katz from Meme and top chefs and mixologists from around the region will share food samples and specialty drinks, plus host a silent auction and other activities. We've never been but past reports make it out to be quiet an epic event. It's a fundraiser for Philadelphia's charge against childhood hunger through Share Our Strength. The organization hosts Taste of the Nation events around the U.S. to raise millions of dollars to help fund their No Kid Hungry campaign and ensure that all children in America get the healthy food they need every day. $85 tickets, $135 for VIP

Saturday, April 27, 2013, 12:00pm - 4:00pm
East Passyunk Ave between Morris & Dickinson
The restaurant scene along East Passyunk is hot and getting hotter. It's worth the trip to this burgeoning neighborhood for brunch/dinner anytime, but this is your chance to try dishes from 20+ area chefs at once. All proceeds benefit the local Business Improvement District's public safety programs. The Crafty Balboa April Showers craft show will also be set up around the fountain, plus live music and a street festival outside of the main food tent. $30 tickets, $50 for VIP

Italian Market Festival: get your 5 minutes of TV fame
Saturday, May 18 - Sunday, May 19, 2013, 11:00am - 6:00pm
9th Street from approx. Fitzwater to Federal
Every year, the nation's oldest outdoor market hosts a mega block party with music, family games/crafts, a Procession of Saints and of course Italian food everywhere you look. This year The Better Show, a syndicated lifestyle TV show that runs locally on the CW at 7:00 am on weekdays, will be at the festival as part of its License to Spill Tour. On Saturday, look for their truck on Christian St. where you can get free samples of Paesano's sandwiches and be filmed participating in a contest for the messiest and most delicious food. Why not, right? Maybe you'll get on TV and if not, in the meantime you got FREE PAESANO'S. Did we say free?
