Sandwich Quest: DiNic's Roast Pork

Despite countless visits to Reading Terminal Market, endless recommendations from others in Philly, and all the publicity from national shows such as Man v. Food, we'd never had the legendary Italian roast pork sandwich from DiNic's. This gaping hole in sandwich eating made DiNic's a must-stop on our Sandwich Quest.

A few weeks ago my dad and I finally fulfilled this obligation and trekked down to DiNic's. The roast pork lived up to all the hype, period!

Between the two of us we had a roast pork with broccoli rabe and one with hot peppers. The pork was perfect with just the right amount of juice. We both agreed that the secret is the freshly shaved sharp provolone, a must order with any sandwich at DiNic's. You can't go wrong with any sandwich there, although in my view the hot pepper sandwich had the slight advantage over the broccoli rabe.

We debated about waiting in line for a third sandwich, likely the best testament to the awesomeness of DiNic's. In a rare family occurrence, we decided against, but only because the line was too long and we needed to get to a Phillies game. We are itching to go back to try a roast beef or brisket sandwich.

Hopefully DiNic's new expanded space in Reading Terminal cuts down on the wait, but not the quality!

Some pictures below.

Pork, pork...
and more pork.

the people at DiNic's work hard and it shows
The bread is KEY to these sandwiches' awesomeness.

Roast Pork Sandwiches >>>> Cheesesteaks. I sometimes wish Philly would lose its association with the steak and revert over to the pork!

the best sandwich there is their Italian style pulled pork with provolone, greens and horseradish. best sandwich in the city.

tony lukes is still the best. it's just too far out of the way.

this place is sort of for tourists
It's good but not great. it a little too soggy for my tastes. also they act like the prov is made of gold. would it kill them to put a little more on there?

on Tuesday, did the ultimate Roast Pork sandwich taste test with 3 other friends. Visited Paesano's on girard Ave, and then went over to DiNic's in Reading Terminal. Lined up both Paesano's Arista (Roast Pork) vs DiNic's Roast Pork Sandwich, and hands down, Paesano's OWNS DiNic's. It's not even close.

We agree on Paesano's. The bolognese is incredible. I haven't tried the Arista, but it is certainly on the t-do list.

Look At All the Oil & Not Much Meat Either. Tony Lukes also Uses Oil & All 3; Including Geno's & Pat's Precook Their Meat Which Are Not Top Quality as Them Claim. That's Very Much Disease To Be Eating

How does the DiNic's in Audubon, NJ compare to the Philadelphia locations? I drive past their "new" location on the Black Horse Pike all the time.

John's roast pork on Snyder is the best by far

I tried this after seeing it on Man vs Food and DiNic's Roast Pork was not all it's cracked up to be. The roll was great but the pork wasn't up to par. I much rather head out to Geno's for an excellent juicy Roast Pork sandwich that just melts in your mouth
